DO NOT TRY THIS AT NARROW SPACES -HIGH DANGER OF FIRE- Steelwool poi photography used 0 size steelwool and a whisker attached to a string in order to help me spin it,the sparkles are captured by the camera, creates this spectacular effect. i used a shutter speed of 25” to 30” ( depends on the situation ). and Apperture of F7 to F9 accordingly ISO as low as possible to avoid capturing “the one who should not be named” ;P ( i mean NOISE ) and the WB set to auto. the video parts captured with a potato that i attached a calculator on it 🙂 so dont be arsed to judge me on that. song is from two steps from hell – Dark ages no copyright infiction is intended. This is an old trick done with fine steel wool to make a huge spiraling shower of sparks. Rapid oxidation of iron contained in the fine strands of steel is an exothermic reaction hot enough to provide the sparks. The process results in black iron oxide (Fe3O4) and red iron oxide (Fe2O3), which is more commonly known as rust. The carbon content found in steel adds to the brilliance of the sparks. 000 or 0000 grade steel wool works best. Any courser and it will not burn properly. If it is fluffed up before igniting it will not burn as long, but it will throw off much thicker sparks. The first two shots in the video show firewires with steel wool that has been fluffed up in this way. Because these use no self contained oxidizing

Hey there,thanks for commenting.
this is very simple. You just need a whisker, some steel wool and 9 volt battery.
you fill the whisker with the steel wool, then you attach the string at the bottom of the handle of the whisker. After that you rub the 9 volt battery on the steel wool. When it sets on fire you spin it around 😉
