Thanks for watching this Review. I was researching online if there was any reviews and tests about this item and sadly there wasn’t. As a HDSLR filmmaker’s point of view, I wanted to do a review as a guide to buyers. People get confused when buying field recorders. Weather zoom h4n or Tascam dr100. There are many forums and blogs but I wanted to show you guys the features of it too! Tascam DR100 is really well built product. Very solid compared to Zoom and Lighter. Has individual volume controls, and 3 1/8 jacks for headphones and line in and out. Make a wise decision when buying your gears. I suggest Tascam over Zoom. But if you want 4 channel recording and usb recording. Zoom wins. Link to the item www.bhphotovideo.com

I could not finish watching this video because of the bad sound, meaning the dog in the background

“Zoom has 1 microphone”. I think you’ll find it has 2.

Dave otw says:

What is this? Is it for recording sound or video?

SLRist says:

Ah, but what about the Roland R-26?

Lionel Josh Lee says:

Jean-Michel Duclos says:

Is the internal mics are better than H4n? I want to do some sound design in my videos.

BluesFrets says:

Picking or Peaking?

musicforindies says:

thanks man! that was an awesome review. Is the Tascam metal casing ? I’m about to buy either this or the H4n, since you made this review back in July 2011 and now it’s January 2012 have you had any problems ? are you still loving it ? anyway thanks again great review.

BreadandCircusStudio says:

Any thoughts on whether to go for the tascam dr100 or the tascam dr40. I’m split, any help would be appreciated

Lionel Josh Lee says:

Zoom is a 4 channel recorder, plastic built, AA powered, usb mic. Tascam has 2 built in mics, better built, better controls, Mic Gain, Double battery powered. Specs are same.

sirasy says:

even after this video,i am not yet able to decide between ZOOM H4N and TASCAM!

sirasy says:

but is TASCAM more expensive than ZOOM H4N if this last one is better for professional recordings?

inyourfaceentdotcom says:

you need a filed mixer and you should have a katabag.

redbarradio says:

Are you fucking kidding me? An AUDIO review with a dog barking non stop in the background? How bout you use the tascam to bash that dogs head in! Jesus Christ.

Michael Dixon says:

Had DR-100 2 years as a Field Recorder it should be protected on mic ends as it falls head first breaking the plastic covers yet has side bars ~ crazy plus the On/Off Button breaks on DR-100 only held on mother board by two tiny plastic legs:Cost for Plastic Mic covers in UK around £120 GBP On/Off Switch around £100 iGBP nc VAT Great for a Field Recorder – not – remember this is an ‘In the Field’. Come on Tascam. Hope DR 40 is better.Michael www_/OAK77_com

hey how you doing? i am making a short film soon and i will use tascam dr-100 to record the ambient sound and the dialogues. it hasnt got many dialogues but it is all i can get with the budget i have. do you recommend any microphone in particular or you think i should record it directly since i dont have a lot of speech. just looking for some advice i am kinda new with sound stuff thank you 🙂

Lionel Josh Lee says:

Since there is a 1/4 20s, I guess you could attach it on to a clamp or you could DIY

tolis287 says:

Is there a way to hang the tascam from neck or to attach it on the belt so it can be used comfortably by boomen?

Lionel Josh Lee says:

As of what I know, It has XLR inputs 2 omni and 2 uni mics, line in and line out. That is a ton of features. For more info, i suggest you check their website. 🙂 Thanks

EltonJohnGigs says:

I have a budget on around $550. I think I could get a proper recorder from that amount of money. I’ll take a look on the Zoom H2N, but why is it that the Tascam DR-100 is so much more expensive? Is it the materials or what?
Thank you very much! 🙂
